To ensure you receive the booking link for the next river clean-up, please join the Brookmill Park mailing list, follow us on social media or Eventbrite.
The River Ravensbourne runs through Brookmill Park in South East London, just a quarter of a mile from where the river flows into the Thames at Deptford Creek. The stretch of water passing through the Park is tidal and brackish (mildly salty), providing the ideal habitat for an exceptional range of wildlife and invertebrates.
Regular clean-ups help to keep the river and bankside clear of plastic and other rubbish are essential to protect the natural environment and wildlife. Organised by local volunteers as free events, sessions are held approximately every two months. Clean-ups are popular community gatherings bringing people together from different walks of life with refreshments served after the event.
Two qualified River Leaders lead each session, guiding up to 20 volunteers to work safely in the waterway following a full health and safety briefing. Volunteers can choose to work in the river, bankside or both. All equipment is provided including waders, gloves, poles, bin hoops and litter pickers.
To participate (for free) all volunteers need to register on Eventbrite. You’ll be asked for your shoe size if you wish to wade in the river. Children over 10 years are welcome if accompanied by parent or responsible adult.
